When CK Mod Kits started, the thing I was most excited about was helping other modelers build more unique subjects. As the years progressed and more products were released, most of my available time switched over to maintaining stock, updating ebay, and order fulfillment. Even with extra help, I was no longer doing the part I loved and it was just becoming more of a chore. Trying to do all of that in the hours outside of my full time job became too much.
Many people have reached out to check in and see what’s going on since the ebay store has been so empty. I wanted to take a few minutes to explain and give a bit of an insight into our plans for the rest of 2026 and beyond.
What’s going on? Just over a year ago in March of 2025, I accepted a promotion at my day job. This job pays the bills and keeps the lights on so that we can continue the 3D print business on the side. The new role has been more demanding of my time and energy and as a result CK Mod Kits had to take a back seat. I’m now getting a good handle on the role and starting to feel more alive in my free time, so hopefully I can dedicate some more time to designing again.
Ebay store: Moving forward, we’re going to list fewer items on the ebay store. We’re going to try to keep the best sellers in stock and readily available but we’re not going to focus on keeping every catalog item in stock. There will probably be a maximum of 10-15 items on the store at any time. It just eats up space and the need to fulfill orders quickly or face ebay’s penalties adds needless stress to my life. So that means fewer things to maintain and keep up with, less stress, better brain at the end of the day.
What about all the other items? They’re still going to be available, just not for immediate shipment. If you need something that isn’t in stock on our ebay page or with one of our distributors, reach out and we’ll get it in the queue. We’re going to try to shoot for a 1 week turnaround on most items. Sometimes we’ll be faster, sometimes slower, but that will be the target and we’ll stay in touch through the process. This will also work to your advantage because it will mean the products will be fresh and won’t have sat on the shelf for months. If you aren’t sure what products we offer, look over the website and check Scalemates. We may even post a spreadsheet at some point listing every item and pricing, etc.
New Products: We were only able to release 1 new product last year which was very disappointing. In 2024 we released 16 new products, so to see that number drop to 1 was frustrating to say the least. The ideas are still there and we have no shortage of things that have been requested, there just hasn’t been enough time and energy to focus on development. I’m going to try to do better and work harder on the things people have requested and try to get back on track with new releases. In fact we’ve already started. I ran off a few test prints last night for an item that was stuck in development for 3 years now. We also made some obscure parts for the Heller Austin Mini that are just waiting on packaging labels and instructions. So good things ARE coming, I promise.
Conclusion: We’re not going anywhere, the business model is just changing. The core vision has always been to help other modelers build unique and more interesting models, so we’re hopeful this will be a change that allows us to keep that as a central focus. Keep the ideas coming. Keep sending us photos of your builds. Keep reaching out with your feedback. Those are the things that keep US going.
Thanks for your continued support!
